He started small with petty crime, but took off from there. Reconnecting with many of his old friends from the streets (in direct violation of Rappaport's Law), he insinuated himself into the New York underworld. When Charles did get back to the Big Apple, he dropped the name Shaughnessy, assuming the moniker, "Charlie Johnson".
